Master in Mechanical Engineering
Department of Automotive Engineering


1 Introduction
        The history of the department can be traced back to 1932, when the study of automotive engineering began within the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The Department of Automotive Engineering became an independent department in 1980. Over the past several decades, the Department of Automotive Engineering has secured its leading position in higher education and in China’s automotive industry and made it a center of automotive technology research and development in China. The department seeks to advance science and technology in the automobile industry through integration of fundamental professional knowledge and its application in automobile engineering. The department currently has 77 faculty and staff members, including 30 professors and 26 associate professors.

2 Courses
        Students shouldearn at least 26 degree credits from the following courses (about 9 courses) with a minimum of 17 coursework credits, excluding credits received for thesis work.

Academic Activities

Students are demanded to take part in Academic Activities at least 10 times and make the record. Before the final presentation of degree thesis, students should hand in the report of Academic Activities with 500 words. After the supervisor checking the report of Academic Activities students can get the credit.

3 Thesis
        Research work for the thesis is usually supervised by an associate professor or above. The Master degree requires completion of a thesis describing research of publishable quality. The thesis must be defended and appraised by a committee consisting of the advisor and at least two other faculty members in the Department of Automotive Engineering. The research area may be one of the following:

4 Qualification of Applicants

Applicant should have a Bachelor degree or equivalent academic background, and be fluent in English.

5 Application Documents

Please upload all the listed documents below to the application system:

1)Personal statement. Doctoral degree program applicants also need to submit a brief introduction of research experience.

2)Degree certificate. Master’s degree program applicants should submit a bachelor’s degree certificate. Doctoral degree program applicants should submit both master’s and bachelor’s degree certificates. Those who have not graduated yet must provide a proof of education in current academic institution.

3)Academic transcript. Master’s degree program applicants should submit an academic transcript of undergraduate study. Doctoral degree program applicants should submit academic transcripts of both graduate and undergraduate studies.

4)HSK certificate and score report for programs offered in Chinese (unless a waiver is approved).

5)Two online academic recommendation letters from scholars who have the title of associate professor or higher, or senior professionals in a related academic field. Please follow system instructions for submission of online recommendation letters.

6)Passport personal information page (personal and ordinary passport).

Note:Use the online application to apply. The online application offers tools for collecting and submitting some, but not all, of the documents and information required for application. Departments may require additional information, so please check their individual admissions pages as well as the remarks below.

6 Application Schedule

Online Application should be completed and the package be received by Februray28, 2016.

7 Application Procedure
Step 1: Online Application
      Complete Online Application on the website of International Students Office, Tsinghua University (
http://gradadmission.tsinghua.edu.cn). Print and sign the Application Form produced by the system after the application status changes to “verified”. For scholarship application documents, please refer section 8 below.
Step 2: Documents Submission
      Submit the application documents listed above to the address indicated below by post mail or in person.

8 Tuition and Scholarship
Tuition: RMB 39,000/year.
Accidental Injury and Hospitalization Insurance: RMB 800/year.
